Quality Construction

This book press is made of cabinet grade plywood and covered with a waterproof high pressure plastic laminate covering (often used on counter tops in kitchens and doctor’s offices). The laminate makes the surfaces easy to clean and it doesn’t warp or become rough from moisture.  It also provides a flat strong surface that will not telegraph any types of wood grain to your covers–a common problem with book presses made from solid wood or plywood. Edges are sanded and sealed with paste wax for a smooth and professional finish.

Springs are provided to keep  the upper platen up so you don’t  have to hold it while positioning the item to be pressed.

Inside Book Press Dimensions

  • Front to back 11-1/4″
  • Side to side between bolts 13-1/4″
  • Daylight 5″

The bolts are 3/8″ and run through copper bushings in the upper platen for smooth up and down motion.  The upper platten is secured with wing nuts.

Other Possibilities

An enhanced version of this book binding press in the form of a combination press is also available which includes a sewing frame.  If you are binding smaller books, a miniature book press is also available.  Click on the pictures for more information.
